When our friends Tina and Gavin told us they were traveling from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Charleston, South Carolina to see the total eclipse of the sun, my husband, Mike, and I loved the idea. The celestial event would closely follow our 45th wedding anniversary, so there was our excuse, by golly, if we needed one, for a trip planned totally on a whim.
I had a funny feeling that we were about to spend bookoo bucks on air flights and travel about 1,000 miles just to get skunked. . . and that's kind of what happened. God has a funny sense of humor. But it was still an awesome experience.

Where did the years go?
When I was young, I read the Milwaukee Journal Green Sheet because I loved the funnies and Mrs. Griggs's advice column and the announcements of 50-year anniversaries. I'd stare for a long time at the pictures of those folks who had been together 50 years. They all looked old.
Nowadays, you can still find 50-year anniversary announcements in the paper. The people look younger than they used to. . . maybe because of more hair dye and that "fitness fad" that started in the 70s? Maybe because I'm older now? I don't know.
