My new book, Dessert First - Glimpses of Wisconsin Life, is out in paperback. To celebrate, I'm having a drawing for a free copy of the book. Anyone who puts a comment on this blog post is eligible. The deadline for comments is midnight March 31.
On April Fool's Day, I will write the names of commenters on slips of paper and put them into my husband's fuzzy ear-flap hat. He will reach in and draw the name of the winner.
I hope there is more than one name in the hat!
Dessert First is a fun book. With short bits of writing, it's a perfect companion for la toilette. Taken as a whole, these short bits form a story of what it's been like for me to live in Wisconsin from the 1950s through now. In the essays and story-poems, you'll find a bit of the city, a bit of the country, plenty of interesting Wisconsin characters, some animals, and lots of Mother Nature. There are funny pieces and sad pieces, whimsy and seriousness...like life.
Here are two comments about Dessert First, from the back cover:
"I still miss having Gail Grenier's articles to look forward to in the newspaper but I enjoy her blog. Her thoughtful writing has often caused me to smile, laugh, cry and think deeply. Sometimes all from the same piece."
– Elizabeth
Boeck, MSW, LCSW, Laughter Yoga instructor
“When I think about indulging in dessert, what comes to
mind is something sugary. But in Dessert
First, not only does Gail Grenier
share the sugar and spice and all things nice, she incorporates what's truly
rich about life as well. Her writing helps me to remember that the richest
moments we experience are found not only during the happy times, but
also the darker times that can test us to our souls.”
- Katie Kolberg Memmel, author of Five Fingers, Ten Toes - A Mother's Story of Raising a Child Born with a Limb Difference

DeleteI am sure I had already made a comment, but I don't see it so here goes. You are a delightful woman, a wonderful writer, and have done so much to help single mothers. I have always believed in the phrase, "Life is uncertain, so eat dessert first" I know all too well about the uncertainties in life, but thank goodness for people like you that help us laugh through them.
ReplyDeleteRosi, I believe you did put this comment on FB but now it's here too & it makes me feel so special!! (heh)...I am counting comments on FB as well as on this blog. I'm glad the comments are starting to come in, cuz I was feeling like a loo-ser!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!

DeleteCongratulations! I look forward to reading your book. I checked out your web site and was very touched by the article on the dog woman. I read a few of your posts about your grandson. My grandson Oliver was also born in 2005. You have a beautiful talent. As someone else said so eloquently, you have the gift to make us laugh, smile, cry, and reflect. Keep sharing your words.
