The Amazing Power of a Christian Passover Meal

I just came home from the annual Christian Passover meal held at my church. Again the ritual brought tears to my eyes. In honor of  this ritual, I am reposting a blog I originally wrote two years ago about the power of this amazing feast....

Take it Easy, O Parents of Young Children!

When the phone rang today at 7:10 am, I figured it could only be bad news. I was wrong.

As I walked to answer the phone, I heard this message being left on my machine:

"Hello, Action News 12, this is the Sweet Family in Bayview. In case you want to cover the story, Oliver woke up this morning, went into the shower, and did not call us to bring a towel. He brought his own towel with him. You can call us if you need more information on this developing story."

Unexpected Grace - Taking A Mini-Retreat

"....These are only hints and guesses,
Hints followed by guesses...."
T.S. Eliot, in "The Dry Salvages" from "Four Quartets"

When I decided to participate in a "Day of Solitude" at the Siena Retreat Center in Racine, Wisconsin last Sunday, I had two needs: I craved a day of silence, and I longed for a feeling of forgiveness toward someone who had hurt me.

Into The Blue (Or - Why I Love Snorkeling)

endless aqua blue

then splash

cool

down into it

one with it

all silent

except for my breath

feeling lighter than

air

lighter than water

lighter than the salt

surrounding me

wheeling

left,

then right,

now lithe as a child

and the aqua blue

becomes background

to uncountable

stripes dots circles chevrons

of gold pink green orange purple

and colors never imagined

circling around me

sunlight filtering through

in flashes

creating

endless patterns

on the carousel

of ever-changing

color

speed

fluttering of fins

and moving of eyes

as they look at me

Mother to My Mother Figure

Nancy Reinsvold is my friend. Her doctor told her that she'd be dead in July…a year ago. That man didn’t know who he was dealing with.
